A 2006 report by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Transportation Research Board, in conjunction with the Union of Concerned Scientists, researched the fuel economy ramifications of replacement tire fuel economy performance. The report found that reducing rolling resistance of replacement tires in the fleet of U.S. cars and trucks by 10 percent is feasible. The report also found that doing so could reduce fuel consumption by one to two percent and save the nation one billion to two billion gallons of gasoline annually.
