The Energy and National Security Benefits of Climate Action

Clean, renewable forms of energy are available in most parts of the world and could readily be harnessed to power our economies. Increased reliance on these homegrown forms of energy can help bring about a global shift away from the current wasteful and dangerous geopolitics of energy. Here in the US, diversifying our energy portfolio and moving to a more efficient, distributed energy system could reduce, or even eliminate, our dependence on oil and liquefied natural gas imports, diminish our vulnerability to energy price shocks, and help improve the overall safety and stability of our energy supply.

Today, about one-third of US oil comes from the Middle East. By 2030, if we do not change our energy policy, we may be relying on Middle East oil for two-thirds of our supply.
